Not all who need artificial limb may be able to come to Mukti. In order to reach out to them, we go to serve them at their doorstep through “Artificial limb camps.” For these Artificial Limb Camps, Mukti with their technicians and materials sets up a temporary workshop at the designated place. The artificial limbs are custom made for each beneficiary as per their deformity and requirements. Generally a camp lasts 7 to 8 days, and 60 to 100 artificial limbs are provided to the needy.
Hundreds of such camps have been held all over India in Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra. Dozens of technicians from other service organizations have been trained at Mukti in the art of fabricating the artificial limbs and calipers.
Many of Limb Camps are sponsored by and organized in association with individuals, service organizations, social clubs, or corporate bodies. Mukti welcomes such initiatives and looks forward to extend the services to the needy.
With requests from international community, training camps were set up in Nepal, Venezuela, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Moscow, Guatemala, West Indies, Malawi, Ghana and Nigeria. At Bolivia, Mexico, and Malawi, Mukti helped to set up Artificial Limb workshops. In 1994, Mukti started its service to polio victims by providing light weight Calipers made out of Polypropylene and PVC. First Caliper camp was conducted at Gwalior in 1997 in association with MALT, England.
