Mr. Mohandass, a 63-year-old male, came all the way from Nooranad, Kerala, to MUKTI to be fitted with artificial limbs for the first time (bilateral BKA, below-knee amputation). A resident of Government Leprosy Sanatorium at Nooranad, a fellow inmate mentioned about MUKTI to him. Due to leprosy and diabetes, he lost both his lower limbs; the left lower limb had to go first about three years ago, soon to be followed by the right lower limb about one-and-a-half years ago.
He was all smiles when he left MUKTI after being fitted with bilateral below-knee prostheses. He says he has regained his lost confidence and stated that he will do whatever he can to make life easier and more meaningful for people like him. It was a joy for all of us here at MUKTI to see him walk for the first time, without the use of crutches. His eyes welled up with tears of joy as he left MUKTI, and thanked MUKTI for making his life a lot more meaningful.
All this is possible only due to kind-hearted people, our sponsors, who are directly responsible for transforming lives of many people like Mohandass.
